Learning Mindsets

The Learning Mindsets and Skills online course was designed to explore the concepts of mindsets and how they can improve student experiences in the classroom. “Learning Mindsets and Skills” was named as such because, in an effort to showcase strategies to enhance classroom practices around mindsets, three seperate documentaries were constructed to coincide with the three weekly themes of the course that interview various education experts about the importance mindsets play in the class.

The three focus areas for the course were: explaining learning mindsets, measurement and assessment for learning mindsets and skills, and reflection and dialogue. The course is designed to be completed over a total of 8 hours of work, over a period of three weeks, with three separate assignments that ultimately culminate in a teacher presentation of learning (POL).

The Learning Mindsets and Skills course was originally offered by the High Tech High Graduate School of Education through Coursera. It was written and created by John Bosselman, Ben Daly, Judy Wu, and Patrick Yurick. When originally offered, course participants joined thousands of other learners to learn the lessons offered in this MOOC. The course was designed to showcase strategies to enhance classroom practices using mindsets.

The version that appears on this site is an archived version of that course, that allows you to still take and learn from it without the original offering method. Unlike the original course, however, this course will not include collaborative learning unless you, the course participant, integrate your own peers into the experience. In other words, this course design is meant to be completed by you with only the documents available in the archive. This database includes 20 videos, 3 activities, and 7 documents, and 6 podcasts.
